The point of learning songs is to learn the "rules", and understand how good music works. Once you know the rules, break them.

The pain of discipline weighs ounces. The pain of regret? TONS. So practice that guitar now, or you'll regret it in 10 years.
Don't let the bozos grind you down. It will take some time to get where you want with the guitar... but you'll get there. Guaranteed.
For god sakes guitarists... Please learn to use your PINKY. It pays to do so. Really.
Time to bring out the FUNK... on guitar that is. Sweet new lesson :-) http://ping.fm/KGWd8

Do you use a metronome to practice "speed"? Don't. That's not what it's for. Metronomes are used to train you to STAY IN TIME.

Wow, it's a small world. Just saw a friend from HS in a video I found on the internet. Now we're facebook friends :-)
The body learns REALLY slow. Slower than we realize sometimes. Keep that in mind the next time you get frustrated learning the guitar.

Here's an inspiring video ALL guitarists need to watch http://ping.fm/WWnUy
why do people making learning guitar harder than it needs to be? it's so simple: practice a song until you OWN it. repeat.

Talent has nothing to do with being a great guitarist. All the greats had one thing in common: Assloads of practice http://ow.ly/4wyNy
Download Jane's Addiction's new song "End to the lies" for free at their website. Just join their email list. http://ping.fm/47Qes
If you haven't seen those little North Korean kids OWNING the guitar on Youtube, do a search for "north korea guitar". Amazing.

Big fancy "Learn guitar" packages. I wouldn't recommend them. Too much junk. You need to learn SONGS, and they should be songs you LIKE.
TIP: If you're starting on guitar and dunno what to learn, do this - Pick a song you like. Make sure it's easy (3-4 open chords). Master it.
Here's that tab, in case you're wondering http://ping.fm/cOh1z
I'm looking at the tab for a song that's one of my favorites. It's 2 CHORDS. Wow. You can do a lot with 2 chords (Separator by Radiohead)
I'm sure you've heard John Mayer's Waiting on the world to change. I heard it eating at Subway :-) Now you can play it http://ow.ly/4vFmu

I like this guitar pick designed by James Hetfield called the "Ultra Black Fang" http://ow.ly/4uPXk
If you want to create your own riffs, chord progressions, songs, etc... COPY OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF. That's how The Beatles became masters.
If you can play something one day, but not the next day... You don't have it down yet. Keep going. When you REALLY have it down, you'll know
I've never had any luck buying guitars "blind". You just can never tell if you'll like the feel. I don't recommend it.
I'm seriously looking to try this myself: Mod Kits DIY has a do it yourself effects pedal kit. I'm totally geeky for this http://ow.ly/4uOL3

Found something to help you figure out songs by ear - http://ping.fm/Jh12L
Ever feel like you don't have "talent" for guitar? You don't need it. The truth is, most successful guitarists are persistent, not talented.
Keep putting your ideas out. Put out some shitty ideas too while you're at it. The point is to never stop that flow or you might regret it
Ever figure a song out on guitar? Transcribing is one of the best ways to learn the language of music. It also gives you a killer "ear" :-)
Oops, sorry about that. It sent one too many times. Apologies.
The Kills have a great new album. I'm a huge fan. Stream the entire thing free via Rolling Stone :-) http://ow.ly/4s9wQ

Here's more on why you should start copying your musical idols http://ping.fm/CloYj
If you want to be an original musician, you first have to spend years copying other artists. Ironic isn't it? The Beatles didn't mind.
Guns N’ Roses guitarist "Bumblefoot" giving lessons via Skype for $1.50/minute. YIKES! Yet another reason I recommend learning on your own.

The "starving artist" thing is bullshit. Starving hurts your art more than anything else. You can't be creative when you're desperate.
I just had an "ah-ha" moment while practicing: Guitarists who have patience get rewarded BIG TIME. It's not even funny. Don't rush it.
Want to learn the Police's "Every Breath You Take" on guitar? Just posted a video: http://ow.ly/4rCex
